*** OUR OBJECTIVES ***
MONTESSORI AND EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM The Montessori and Extended Day program provides carefully prepared environments within which the child experiences freedom with structure. They are purposefully designed to meet the developmental needs of children ages three through six. It is a unique cycle of learning created to take full advantage of the child’s sensitive years between three and six when it is easiest for him/her to absorb information from an enriched environment. This is accomplished through exposure to materials and experiences from Montessori curriculum, which develops intellectual, social, and physical abilities.
The class is of mixed ages to allow for both individual and social development. The older children can guide the younger children, which helps them build social skills, and reinforces their learning. The younger child learns by seeing role models. Children are respected as individuals and social interaction is encouraged as they work toward acquiring the skills, self-confidence, and inner motivation needed to become effective students who can realize their own unique potential. The atmosphere is relaxed and caring, while encouraging development of respect for themselves, each other, and their environment.
The curriculum is geared to encourage the children to discover, develop, and apply their capabilities and skills. This is largely achieved through the use of exercises in Practical Life, Sensorial Activities, Language Materials, Mathematical Development, Geography, Music, and Science. Extended Day is designed to complement the Montessori program and maintain continuity for the children to further their growth and development.
“Presentations” are given to an individual child, but some materials are presented in a small group setting. Each child is free to work with any material that has been "presented" to him/her. The specific presentations will vary according to the child’s age, interests, and developmental level. Group activities involving most or all of the children are planned each day.
